The 2006 vintage Marilyn Merlot is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The additional flavors and structure that Cabernet gives to the predominately Merlot-based wine adds both character and aging ability. Using one-third new oak barrels gives the appropriate aromas of toasted oak and a more complex mouth feel from the new oak tannins. The fruit flavors are soft and mature. Vineyards for this wine continue to be from our longtime growers ranging in location from Yountville to St. Helena in the middle of the Napa Valley." - John McKay, winemaker
Since 1985, this company, started by Bob and Donna Holder and a few friends over a dinner table conversation, has been making one of the most popular collector wines in the world:

While collectors have made Marilyn Merlot one of the fastest-appreciating wines on the market, it is wine enthusiasts with a sense of humor who have long enjoyed the playful spirit behind Marilyn Merlot wines that are now also seeking the Marilyn Merlot because of the emphasis on making a notable wine from prized Napa Valley grapes. The combination has proved as seductive to wine lovers as it has to collectors, and the 2004 vintage of Marilyn Merlot, to be released on Marilyn's birthday, June 1st

promises to be both the finest and most collectible wine of the series.
The annual release of Marilyn Merlot is a much-anticipated event for fans of Marilyn Monroe and wine collectors.
"Each newly released vintage sells out within a few months," notes Bob Holder, one of the owners of Marilyn Wines. "We limit the production of this wine, so that we can focus on quality that befits the elegance of the images on our labels."
That formula has proved most successful, as Marilyn Merlot has long been one of the fastest-appreciating wines in value over the years, with twelve-bottle sets of the 1985 through 1996 vintages selling on the collector market today for as much as $7,500.
Every vintage of Marilyn Merlot features a dramatic photo of the legendary star, and the Sam Shaw photo portrait that graces the 2004 vintage of Marilyn Merlot is one of the most expressive, dramatic and seductively glamorous ever created. Taken in 1953, it features Marilyn in a gown she wore in the movie "How to Marry a Millionaire," in which she starred along with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall.
The wine itself is a study in elegance. Grown entirely in Napa Valley, it is a blend of 90 percent Merlot and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. It has the depth of fruit flavors and rich texture that winemaker John McKay feels to be the best expression of the Merlot grown in the heart of Napa Valley.
Therefore this bottle has become highly sought after as a collectors bottle and would make a great addition to your collection.
